    The Fast Read-out System for the MAPMTs of COMPASS RICH-1

    A fast readout system for the upgrade of the COMPASS RICH detector has been developed and successfully used for data taking in 2006 and 2007. The new readout system for the multi-anode PMTs in the central part of the photon detector of the RICH is based on the high-sensitivity MAD4 preamplifier-discriminator and the dead-time free F1-TDC chip characterized by high-resolution. The readout electronics has been designed taking into account the high photon flux in the central part of the detector and the requirement to run at high trigger rates of up to 100 kHz with negligible dead-time. The system is designed as a very compact setup and is mounted directly behind the multi-anode photomultipliers. The data are digitized on the frontend boards and transferred via optical links to the readout system. Perkawinan di Indonesia memiliki hubungan yang erat sekali dengan agama/kerohanian yang dianut oleh pasangan, sehingga perkawinan tidak saja mengandung unsur lahir/jasmani, tetapi juga unsur bathin/rohani. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat di Kampung Babakan Ngantai, Desa Singasari, Kecamatan Jonggol, Kabupaten Bogor, Jawa Barat dilakukan sebagai bentuk Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) Fakultas Hukum Universitas Kristen Indonesia dalam rangka program pemberdayaan masyarakat serta meningkatkan solidaritas dan kepedulian kepada kondisi masyarakat, khususnya yang membutuhkan bantuan hukum, khususnya di tengah pandemi Covid-19. Tema PPM ini kami ambil karena permasalahan mengenai hukum keluarga adalah masalah yang seringkali dihadapi masyarakat di dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. PKM dilaksanakan dengan cara ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab serta dilakukan evaluasi melalui penyebaran kuesioner kepada peserta. Pengabdian dilaksanakan oleh tim dosen FH UKI yang berkompeten di bidang hukum keluarga. Hasil dari PKM penyuluhan hukum keluarga membuat bertambahnya pengetahuan dan pemahaman warga Desa Singasari tentang hukum keluarga dan permasalahan perkawinan yang dihadapinya.     Background studies and shielding effects for the TPC detector of the CAST experiment

    Sunset solar axions traversing the intense magnetic field of the CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) experiment may be detected in a Time Projection Chamber (TPC) detector, as X-rays signals. These signals could be masked, however, by the inhomogeneous background of materials in the experimental site. A detailed analysis, based on the detector characteristics, the background radiation at the CAST site, simulations and experimental results, has allowed us to design a shielding which reduces the background level by a factor of ~4 compared to the detector without shielding, depending on its position, in the energy range between 1 and 10 keV.     A low background Micromegas detector for the CAST experiment

    A low background Micromegas detector has been operating on the CAST experiment at CERN for the search of solar axions during the first phase of the experiment (2002-2004). The detector operated efficiently and achieved a very low level of background rejection (5×1055\times 10^{-5} counts keV1^{-1}cm2^{-2}s1^{-1}) thanks to its good spatial and energy resolution as well as the low radioactivity materials used in the construction of the detector. For the second phase of the experiment (2005-2007), the detector will be upgraded by adding a shielding and including focusing optics.     Radiative corrections to neutral pion-pair production

    We calculate the one-photon loop radiative corrections to the neutral pion-pair photoproduction process πγππ0π0\pi^-\gamma \to \pi^-\pi^0\pi^0. At leading order this reaction is governed by the chiral pion-pion interaction. Since the chiral π+ππ0π0\pi^+\pi^-\to\pi^0\pi^0 contact-vertex depends only on the final-state invariant-mass it factors out of all photon-loop diagrams. We give analytical expressions for the multiplicative correction factor Rα/2πR\sim \alpha/2\pi arising from eight classes of contributing one-photon loop diagrams. An electromagnetic counterterm has to be included in order to cancel the ultraviolet divergences generated by the photon-loops. Infrared finiteness of the virtual radiative corrections is achieved (in the standard way) by including soft photon radiation below an energy cut-off λ\lambda. The radiative corrections to the total cross section vary between +2%+2\% and 2%-2\% for center-of-mass energies from threshold up to 7mπ7m_\pi. The finite part of the electromagnetic counterterm gives an additional constant contribution of about 1%1\%, however with a large uncertainty.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, submitted to Eur. Phys. J.

    New pixelized Micromegas detector with low discharge rate for the COMPASS experiment

    New Micromegas (Micro-mesh gaseous detectors) are being developed in view of the future physics projects planned by the COMPASS collaboration at CERN. Several major upgrades compared to present detectors are being studied: detectors standing five times higher luminosity with hadron beams, detection of beam particles (flux up to a few hundred of kHz/mm^{2}, 10 times larger than for the present Micromegas detectors) with pixelized read-out in the central part, light and integrated electronics, and improved robustness. Two solutions of reduction of discharge impact have been studied, with Micromegas detectors using resistive layers and using an additional GEM foil. Performance of such detectors has also been measured. A large size prototypes with nominal active area and pixelized read-out has been produced and installed at COMPASS in 2010. In 2011 prototypes featuring an additional GEM foil, as well as an resistive prototype, are installed at COMPASS and preliminary results from those detectors presented very good performance.     Fast readout of the COMPASS RICH CsI-MWPC photon chambers

    Abstract A new readout system for CsI-coated MWPCs, used in the COMPASS RICH detector, has been proposed and tested in nominal high-rate conditions. It is based on the APV25-S1 analog sampling chip, and will replace the Gassiplex chip readout used up to now. The APV chip, originally designed for silicon microstrip detectors, is shown to perform well even with "slow" signals from a MWPC, keeping a signal-to-noise ratio of 9. For every trigger the system reads three consecutive in-time samples, thus allowing to extract information on the signal shape and its timing. The effective time window is reduced from ∼3 μs for the Gassiplex to below 400 ns for the APV25-S1 chip, reducing pile-up events at high particle rate. A significant improvement of the signal-to-background ratio by a factor 5–6 with respect to the original readout has been measured in the central region of the RICH detector. Due to its pipelined architecture, the new readout system also considerably reduces the dead time per event, allowing efficient data taking at higher trigger rate

    A package for pattern recognition and PID by COMPASS RICH-1 has been developed and used for the analysis of COMPASS data collected in the years 2002 to 2004, and 2006-2007 with the upgraded RICH-1 photon detectors. It has allowed the full characterization of the detector in the starting version and in the upgraded one, as well as the PID for physics results.     The CAST Time Projection Chamber

    One of the three X-ray detectors of the CAST experiment searching for solar axions is a Time Projection Chamber (TPC) with a multi-wire proportional counter (MWPC) as a readout structure. Its design has been optimized to provide high sensitivity to the detection of the low intensity X-ray signal expected in the CAST experiment. A low hardware threshold of 0.8 keV is safely set during normal data taking periods, and the overall efficiency for the detection of photons coming from conversion of solar axions is 62 %. Shielding has been installed around the detector, lowering the background level to 4.10 x 10^-5 counts/cm^2/s/keV between 1 and 10 keV. During phase I of the CAST experiment the TPC has provided robust and stable operation, thus contributing with a competitive result to the overall CAST limit on axion-photon coupling and mass.Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures and images, submitted to New Journal of Physic
